I came across a quote that goes something like this, “When you see God in the little things, you’ll see God in the big things.”
Anybody who’s ever read anything I’ve written probably knows that I carry on a non-stop conversation with God. Most times I feel like it’s rather one-sided. But maybe that’s because I do too much talking and not enough listening. Hmm. I feel like I have followed the advice of the quote, though. I’ve been able to find God in just about everything – little or big. And as I navigate my life, it helps.
Lately my family has been consumed with one of those “little” things. Her name is Berkeley. She is little but she is mighty and I can look into her sweet face and surely see a glimpse of God.
In April she celebrated her first birthday. I bought her a little hat and made her a little cake. Her mama tricked out her high chair in a pink tutu. Friends and family assembled. We all had a grand time and my granddaughter behaved just like any 1-year old human would behave – oblivious to the occasion but happy and content in the safety of her home with her parents.
I took great joy in baking her little cake. I put pink icing on it. It took her a few minutes to understand what she was supposed to do with it. But soon traces of pink icing adorned her nose and eyelashes. It was a big day with little, heart-warming moments.
A little hat, a little cake, a little girl. I see God in little things.
